Helicopter shoot with MRMS

Behind the scenes filming with the volunteers who make the TT Races happen.

The TT is covered by more cameras than almost anything else on the Island, and nearly all of them point at the bikes. We turned ours towards the helicopter.

Manx Roadracing Medical Services (MRMS) provides the medical cover for the TT, the Manx Grand Prix, the Classic TT and the Southern 100. Around 100 volunteer doctors, paramedics, nurses and physiotherapists give up five weeks a year to deliver pre-hospital care on some of the hardest ground in motorsport. When a rider comes off somewhere a road ambulance cannot reach, it's the MRMS crew in the helicopter that gets there first.

We spent a session with the MRMS helicopter crew at Union Mills. Getting there means being accredited and inside the road closure, which changes how a shoot runs. Once the roads shut, you are where you are. There is no repositioning, no second location and no asking anyone to go again. The crew in front of the lens are on duty, and the aircraft can be called away at any moment. The kit was built for one operator to carry and run all day: a Ronin 4D in hand alongside a Blackmagic URSA Mini 12K, with no added lighting and no marks on the ground.
