Simon King

Head of Digital

Simon is Head of Digital at DotPerformance. Over more than 25 years he has worked across the full spectrum of the industry, and that breadth is not incidental. Where most people specialise early and stay there, Simon built something that is genuinely rare: a mind that holds design, development, strategy, and systems thinking all at once.

What drives him is curiosity. Not the casual kind, but the restless, analytical variety that sends you down rabbit holes at 11pm because something does not quite make sense yet. That instinct has shaped his entire career, and it is what makes him effective. He does not just know how the pieces work. He understands how they connect.

His background spans graphic design, front-end and back-end development, project management, business analysis, cloud architecture, digital marketing, SEO, and digital strategy. That is not a list of jobs he has done. It is a picture of how he thinks. When Simon looks at a digital problem, he is drawing on all of it simultaneously.

In a room where a project is getting complicated or a deadline is getting tight, Simon is the person everyone looks to. Not because he is the loudest voice, but because he is the clearest one. He knows what is possible, he knows what is not, and he has the experience to tell the difference quickly. That steadiness under pressure is something teams and clients come to rely on.

He describes himself as a maker, which is probably the most honest way to put it. He builds things, fixes things, and takes genuine satisfaction in getting something to work properly. That same instinct extends to his allotment, where he grows his own vegetables, and to his ongoing project of making rhubarb wine. Most days you will find him exactly where you would expect: in a check shirt, perched over his computer with furrowed brows, deep in concentration.

How does Simon think about the work?

He thinks in connections. Most digital problems look like isolated issues until someone with Simon's range looks at them, and sees that the SEO problem is actually a content structure problem, the content structure problem is actually a brief problem, and the brief problem is actually a positioning problem. Twenty-five years across every layer of the industry means he reads a digital presence the way a doctor reads a scan. Quickly, accurately, and several levels deep.

What does Simon specialise in?

Digital strategy, technical architecture, and systems. The three are rarely separable in Simon's world. A website that does not convert is often a systems problem as much as a design one. A team drowning in manual processes is a digital problem with a digital solution. Simon works across all of it, from the strategic layer down to the infrastructure that makes it run.

What does working with Simon look like in practice?

Clients get someone who can hold the full picture and stay level when things get complicated. Simon moves between boardroom conversations about digital direction and the technical work of building and connecting the systems that make it real. When ambitions are high and timelines are tight, his ability to ground the conversation in what is genuinely achievable is as valuable as anything else he brings.

Where is Simon based?

Simon is based on the Isle of Man and works with clients across the UK and internationally.
