It’s not common for agencies to bring photography in-house. After all, there are talented freelance photographers everywhere. So why did we do it? Because we had no choice—it wasn’t just about having great photos; it was about having the right photos.
Let’s start with our work on film sets. We’re always filming something, but film crews are not photographers. Clients would often ask us for stills—understandably so—but snapping a still isn’t the same as setting up for one. A film set is focused on motion, not moments. That disconnect was the first clue that we needed a dedicated approach.
Then there’s branding and web design—two things we do a lot of. You’d be amazed at the photos clients provide. Anything from a headshot snapped on an iPhone in a poorly lit room to a product photo that’s blurry and lifeless. Trying to build a sleek, professional brand with subpar visuals is like trying to bake a cake with stale flour. It just doesn’t work.
Bringing photography in-house wasn’t about replacing freelancers; it was about consistency. It was about creating visuals that align perfectly with the brand, the website, and the entire strategy. By having Nico on board, we can control every detail—from lighting to colours to the tiniest reflection in a product shot.
